United States Crystal Growing Competition

Posted in News

Every year Professor Karah Knope helps coordinate the United States Crystal Growing Competition. The competition was founded by Dr. Jason Benedict (University at Buffalo) and is an annual event designed to provide K-12 students and teachers with a fun, hands-on STEM activity.  Materials for crystal growing are provided to classrooms and households with the goal to grow the largest and highest quality crystal.  Prizes are awarded for the biggest and highest quality single crystals. Each year Prof. Knope and her lab coordinate and help pack hundreds of material boxes to ship out all over the country.  This is an amazing opportunity for students to gain hands on experimentation experience.  If you would like more information about this contest, visit www.uscrystalgrowingcompetition.org (new window) or contact Prof. Knope (Karah.Knope@georgetown.edu).
