X-Ray Diffraction Facility Manager

Georgetown University has an immediate opening for an X-ray Diffraction Facility Manager (non-tenure track faculty member).  The position is currently a one year appointment, though we anticipate the potential for renewal.  The manager will be responsible for:  i) maintaining the instruments in top working condition, ii) providing user support and training to new users, including the teaching of a hands-on, graduate-level course in X-ray diffraction, iii) some service crystallography, and iv) managing billing and financial reports.

The current facility consists of two X-ray diffractometers: a Bruker SMART single crystal diffractometer, recently upgraded with an APEX II CCD detector, and a Rigaku R-AXIS RAPID curved imaging plate multipurpose diffractometer, each equipped with N2 cooling devices.

The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. or equivalent experience using small molecule X-ray crystallography, preferably in both single-crystal and PXRD applications.  The successful candidate must have the desire and ability to teach effectively, strong communication skills, and the ability to maintain complex scientific laboratory equipment.  Salary and academic level will be commensurate with experience.

Any questions regarding the search should be forwarded to chemad@georgetown.edu with “X-Ray Search” in the subject line.
